Writer, journalist and campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for Digital Health Rewired 2020.
In her award-winning book, Invisible Women, Caroline explores the unconscious gender bias behind the data that we use to make crucial decisions about our society.
This includes the dangerous presumption that male symptoms of heart attacks also apply to women, and the ‘one-size-fits-men approach’ to tech design.
Caroline’s main stage keynote on 4 March will examine the unconscious biases that emerge from the gender data gaps in healthcare, technology and society as a whole.
Alongside regular TV and newspaper appearances, Caroline has campaigned for Jane Austen to appear on the £10 note and petitioned for a statue of a woman to appear in Parliament Square.
The announcement of Caroline’s keynote has attracted attention on social media, with CCIO Advisory Panel member, Doug Stewart calling her “inspirational” while adding that Rewired is going “to be phenomenal”.
While Ayesha Rahim, who is CCIO at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and is also speaking at Rewried 2020, said she was “thrilled” that Caroline will be speaking.
Caroline joins fellow keynote speakers Matthew Gould, CEO of NHSX, Sarah Wilkinson, CEO of NHS Digital, techUK president, Jacqueline de Rojas, and author and data campaigner, Dr Ben Goldacre, across a packed two-day programme.
Another speaker is Professor Julia Riley, a consultant in palliative care at the Royal Marsden and co-founder of Coordinate My Care.
She will be telling the Rewired 2020 audience how an initiative she began ten years ago is now in use across the capital by GPs, carers, nurses and ambulance and out-of-hours services.
Digital Health Rewired 2020, which takes place between 3-4 March, is focused on connecting everyone working in health IT with the very best in innovative and disruptive digital health.
