Synapse Health is transforming the durable medical equipment (DME) experience in the U.S. with technology that streamlines workflows, cuts administrative burden, and delivers equipment to patients faster. Its platforms create a seamless, tech-enabled network that connects providers, payers, suppliers and patients.

We spoke with Mandira Singh, President of Synapse Health, who is focused on reshaping healthcare delivery. She shares insights on the biggest challenges facing the DME industry, how Synapse is solving them, and the company’s vision for elevating DME as a strategic part of value-based care. Singh is a forward-thinking health tech leader, advisor and angel investor driving innovation at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

For those unfamiliar with Synapse Health, could you start by telling us what the company does?

Synapse Health was built to streamline the DME experience. We manage the full journey—from intake and documentation to routing, claims, and patient support—so patients get their medical equipment faster and with less friction. Historically, this process has been disjointed and frustrating for everyone involved. So we’ve built a tech-enabled model to take on the operational and financial complexity, which then allows healthcare providers, payors and DME providers to focus on delivering care. Through Synapse Connect, Equip, and our Patient Portal, our platforms deliver equipment seamlessly to patients at home, in skilled nursing facilities and in hospice care. We work behind the scenes to remove friction, reduce administrative burden and ensure continuity of care.

What’s the most critical problem you are working to solve in the durable medical equipment (DME) industry?

The DME industry is plagued by fragmentation, outdated workflows and a lack of transparency. These inefficiencies delay care for patients, frustrate healthcare providers and drive up costs. At Synapse, we’re solving for that by building a unified, intelligent infrastructure that connects prescribers, payers, suppliers and patients. Our goal is to make DME as seamless and reliable as possible. Our model improves predictability, reduces waste and creates a better patient experience.

Can you describe the spectrum of end users who utilize your services and tools, and how your solutions make their lives easier?

We serve patients, prescribers, DME providers and payers—each with unique needs, all facing the same broken system. Our platform simplifies workflows for prescribers, ensures reliable referrals and payment for providers, and gives payers transparency and control. For patients, it means faster access to the right equipment and being able to manage all of their equipment needs with one point of contact.

Our platform automates documentation, verifies insurance in real time and routes orders to the best-fit provider. That means fewer phone calls, faster deliveries and better outcomes for everyone involved.

Can you share a success story or a key milestone?

Our most impactful milestones have been contracting with major health plans to manage DME for Medicare Advantage members across multiple states. We’re continuing to expand geographically and across member types. This shift allowed us to bring our tech-enabled model to scale, improving fulfillment speed and reducing administrative burden for thousands of patients and providers. We’ve also expanded our subcontracted provider network, ensuring patients are matched with high-quality local teams while we handle the billing and compliance on their behalf.

What’s one thing about the DME industry that people might find surprising or interesting?

Most people don’t realize how much manual work still goes into getting a walker or a CPAP machine to a patient. Fax machines, phone calls and paper documentation are still the norm in many settings. We’ve built a medical rules engine that automates these steps, ensuring every order meets payer requirements and gets fulfilled without delay. It’s a quiet revolution, but one that’s making a big difference.

Thinking about the future, how will the company have an impact on the healthcare landscape?

Our vision is to elevate DME as a strategic part of value-based care and make DME data actionable. That way, payers and providers can track outcomes, identify gaps and improve care delivery. We’re investing in AI, expanding our partnerships and building tools that elevate the role of DME in the broader healthcare ecosystem. By aligning risk and responsibility, we’re creating a more predictable, transparent system—one that supports real-world care, reduces friction and scales sustainably.
