At some point, your body will need a break. Even if you think it won’t, it will. It works at full capacity all of the time, without us really knowing it, and at some point, it’s going to stop us in our tracks.

If you don’t believe us, consider your own daily habits. Do you forego breakfast? Do you get plenty of sleep every night? Do you drink a minimum of two litres of water each day? Do you do at least half an hour of exercise every day? The chances are that even if you do some things, you will not do them all. 

You are also probably failing to spot or at least take note of the warning signs. If you are feeling sleepy every afternoon, it is probably a sign. If you struggle to get out of bed in the morning, it is probably your body saying ‘hey, give me a break!’. Instead of ignoring it, listen to what it is telling you. Here, we look at some of the things that you can do to make sure your body is treated with the respect that it deserves.

Slow down – you need a break

Our lives are what we make them, and most of us are making them unnecessarily stressful by rushing around all of the time. We are working, cooking, cleaning, socializing, caring, and so on. It is not just your body that is constantly active, it is your mind as well. When you have so many thoughts racing through your mind every day, you will soon begin to feel the mental stress, as well as the signs your body will give you. Slow down your life and cut down the number of things you do each day, give yourself the break you need. Plan your day so that you are not rushing around after work trying to get everything done. Of course, there are things that you have to do, but some are always more important than others, and as long as they are done, the others can (usually) wait.

Cut out the bad habits

When we are stressed and overwhelmed, we often pick up bad habits. This might be skipping a decent breakfast and just having a coffee on the go, or it might be that you use alcohol as a crutch to help you sleep. Most bad habits, with a little perseverance, can be overcome or replaced with better ones. For example, if you smoke, look at a geek bar to help you stop. If you drink too much alcohol, look at having three nights a week where you do not touch a single drop, and gradually increase the number of days.

Understand what your body needs

Your body requires a lot from you, but the majority of us don’t truly understand what that is, which has a negative impact on how we perform. To support our bodies, we need to eat healthy foods and take supplements. We should all be taking vitamin D and Omega-3 supplements in particular. Many people are deficient in vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for maintaining healthy heart and organ function. Getting all of the nutrients we require from our diet is also important, so think twice the next time you put something in your mouth.
