Many people have areas of their bodies where they carry stubborn bulges or rolls of fat. Thighs with extra fat can be a very common problem that many people would like to resolve but surgery should be the last resort.

Is there any way to reduce the fat in the thigh area without the need for surgery, and if so would it truly be effective?

There are many magic creams and other products on the market promising weight loss or drastic reductions in fat. Some of these products have scientific backing although the results may be found wanting and others are pure snake oil. These lotions and potions range from chewing gums to teas and creams. They promise to bind fat and remove it from the body and all sorts of other magical ways to make sure you become skinny.

The truth is there is no magical weight loss cure. The simple way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Simply consume less calories and fat than you burn off. However there are sometimes really stubborn areas of our bodies that just don’t respond no matter how hard we work at them.

This is where cryolipolysis might be able to solve your problems

The thigh area and lower buttocks can often develop an extra roll of fat that many find unattractive in themselves. It doesn’t matter that loved ones notice or think it is a problem. It might just be a question of self confidence and it may be something you wish to change about yourself.

Cryolipolysis is an FDA approved non-invasive method of removing fat. Far from being snake oil this is an effective method for freezing and reducing fat and has been proven and approved. There are many other non-surgical and non-invasive procedures for reducing fat cells too involving radiotherapy, ultrasound and laser treatments. If you decide you may want one of these procedures it is worth talking to a few practitioners to hear their advice and answer all the questions you have. Only after looking at all the facts should you make your choice

What are non-invasive procedures?

Non-invasive procedures are where no cuts or breaks in the skin, or contact with the mucosa or body cavity including through a natural orifice.

Non-invasive procedures require no recovery time and do no or little damage to the body or any tissues or skin.

Non-invasive fat removal procedures would include such modern treatments as radiotherapy, ultrasound and of course, fat freezing. Laser fat removal is a minimally invasive fat removal procedure..

Is cryolipolysis effective on thighs?

Cryolipolysis is very effective on thighs. Not only can it help remove and destroy fat cells but it can also help to improve the appearance of cellulite. Cryolipolysis or fat freezing can remove around 20-25% of fat cells in a targeted area. If a suitable patient used fat freezing on their thighs it may only take one session to remove the unwanted fat.

How does fat freezing work?

Cryolipolysis works by cooling the fat cells underneath the skin without damaging the skin or underlying organs. The fat cells are very susceptible to cold and so with the application of cold temperatures they will freeze. After this they will die. The body can then break down these fat cells, absorb and eliminate them. This takes time to do so the results are not immediately seen. After a few weeks or so the body will start to look more toned in the area that was treated. Fat freezing cannot tighten skin however so anyone who already has loose skin should avoid this type of procedure.

How long will it take to recover from cryolipolysis?

There is no recovery time which is one of the main advantages of using cryolipolysis. It may seem too good to be true but with non-invasive procedures the body hasn’t had any trauma caused to it and no drugs injected into it so there is little to recover from.

A patient who undergoes a fat freezing session is perfectly able to go and meet friends afterwards or go to a yoga session or return to work. There are slight possibilities of side effects but these are minimal and are said to affect less than 1% of patients. The side effects may include slight swelling, numbness, sensitivity, a feeling of tugging in the treated area and soreness like a slight injury. Compared to invasive surgery these are minor annoyances that most people will shrug off and will disappear within 24 hours.

When will you see the results of the procedure?

Although there is no recovery time there is still time needed for the body to adjust. The fat cells need time to metabolize and disappear. This can take from 6-12 weeks. During this time you will start to notice differences in your body shape until the full results are visible. It is then that you can decide whether to have further sessions or if you are happy with the results on your thighs.

Are the effects permanent?

Cryolipolysis treatments are permanent. Once the fat cells are frozen and die they will not return. However this is not the entire story. Humans generally don’t develop new fat cells once they pass puberty. The ones we have just grow bigger instead. If someone undergoes liposuction or a procedure then new cells can develop or fat can be deposited in different areas.

This is very important to note because cryolipolysis is not a weight loss cure. It should be used as part of a balanced lifestyle to achieve the body shape you desire which means exercising, being active and eating healthily.
